Our CEO, Helena Field, has been lucky enough to have an exciting and varied career in Spa, Beauty and Fitness. Having gained professional qualifications in massage and fitness, Helena started her working life in gyms, quickly moving up the career ladder to management, where she had her first exposure to recruitment and the challenges facing candidates and leaders alike.
As with so many of you from the industry, she chose to broaden her skills and experiences, which took her into the spa and beauty sectors. She has gone on to manage internationally recognised and highly respected luxury spas, including: The Refinery in Harrods, Danesfield House Spa in Buckinghamshire, Pennyhill Park Spa in Surrey and finally the Mandarin Oriental Spa, Hyde Park London. Her most recent position has been as General Manager of the UK Spa Association, a not-for-profit trade association supporting the industry in the UK and representing UK interests internationally.
So why SpaPulse?
Recruitment has always featured heavily in Helena’s career. She has sourced, interviewed and been involved in hiring hundreds of talented people over the years. It has always been a challenge to find the right jobs for the right people at the right time. This challenge will only grow. By 2020, it has been estimated that the industry will require an additional 400,000 trained spa therapists and 70,000 experienced spa managers/directors*, so having a scalable and suitable means to support recruitment for these sectors is no longer added-value, it is a necessity.
The evolution of the web, and advances in mobile adoption and digital marketing have also meant that both candidates and employers are turning to digital technology to advertise and apply for jobs across the globe. This demand has led to a plethora of websites being developed, often on a limited budget and with little consideration to the nuances of our industry.
Leaders managing recruitment typically don’t have the time or budget to find the right website that works well for their business, resulting in time and money wasted on advertising that generates little returns.
What the industry needed was a dedicated job listing site offering more than just the opportunity to advertise a role; it needed to offer candidates greater accessibility, and for employers a far easier way to advertise roles and source talented professionals at a reasonable cost.
