Meet Harriet, a Senior Therapist at Fistral Spa, Cornwall
About five and a half months.
How did you come to work within the spa?
I previously worked with the company at Gaia Spa from when it first opened, I left to go travelling then moved to Cornwall when I returned, so they kindly offered me a place at Fistral Spa.
What's your biggest achievement since joining Fistral Spa?
Becoming Senior Therapist.
What do you love most about working at Fistral Spa?
The great team! Also the beautiful location, I love being by the sea!
Tell us what at typical day in the life of a therapist at Fistral Spa looks like?
It's hard to say as it changes day to day depending on bookings, it can be diverse, you definitely get to meet a variety of different people and there is always something to keep you busy within the spa.
How have the management team at Fistral Spa helped you to achieve your current career goal?
By being encouraging and supportive. Giving me more responsibility within the spa by promoting me to senior therapist. Also motivating and helping me to start a dance exercise class in the hotel which allows me to do something else I love.
What treatment do you specialise in?
Body treatments and massage but I would say mainly deep tissue massage.
What's your favourite treatment to perform?
The Ocean Gaia Ritual and Balinese, I also like just massage where I can tailor the treatment to the individual guests needs.
What's been your best experience with a guest - or outcome from a treatment?
It's difficult to pick one as it's a rewarding job! It just feels good to be able to make someone feel good even if it’s for a short time, it can make a massive difference to someone’s wellbeing.
What's your morning routine before beginning a day of treatments?
Help to set up relax room with refreshments and making sure the spa is looking its best, then checking my treatment column for the day (I always check my notes!) preparing myself for my day ahead by setting up my room making sure I have everything I need ready. This helps me to feel grounded, I also try to clear my head before my first treatment, so I am fully focused on my guest.
How do you take care of your own wellbeing?
I spend a lot of time outdoors (especially when the weather's good!) I find walking in the woods or by the sea with my puppy makes me feel good. I also try to have some time to myself by having a nice bath with some frankincense maybe a little pamper session. I rock climb which helps my strength and clears my mind, also dancing and listening to music makes me feel happy and good for my fitness. I try to stretch lots, drink plenty of water and eat well. Oh, and I always eat a great breakfast, this is very important to my wellbeing!
Do you have any wellness/skincare tips you can share?
Drink plenty of water, eat fresh food, use natural products and essential oils they can have great benefits! Take time out for yourself. Get outside! Dance and listen to music!
